Medicine Investigations

Anything not treated by surgical methods is considered medicine - the basic science of equine health care. At our equine facility we can perform medicine investigations on your horse be it a newborn foal or a 35 year-old, retired pony.

As well as our experienced team, consulting veterinary surgeons to the practice bring with them diplomas and experience from working all around the world. We believe our clinic can provide the most up to date care for your horse.

Common medicine investigations and treatments carried out at our clinic:

Weight Loss Investigations – Parasites, inflammatory bowel disease, enteritis, gastric ulceration, chronic infections, dental abnormalities and malnutrition, glucose absorption tests, abdominal scans, endoscopy, gastroscopy and rectal biopsy.

Recurrent Colic investigations – Numerous causes.

Diarrhoea – Infectious, inflammatory, diet induced, neoplastic (cancer), parasite-induced, enteritis, colitis.

Ocular/eye disease – Corneal ulceration, uveitis, traumatic and cataracts

Gastric ulcers

Reproductive – Pregnancy diagnosis, abnormalities of the uterus and ovaries

Respiratory – Sinus disease, upper and lower airway disease, plueropnuemonia, pneumonia, neoplasia

Urinary – Cystitis and renal disease

Liver Disease – Ragwort poisoning, acute toxicity, chronic, heptatic disease

Skin grafting of wounds

Muscle biopsies – Various equine myopathies

Cardiology – Arrhythmias, murmur, congestive heart failure

Neurology – Traumatic, orthopaedic, infection, toxic

Numerous skin infections

Medical Colic – Impactions, gastric ulceration, mild tympanic (gas colic)

Equine Choke

Hyperlipaemia/hypolipidaemia

Dental – Tooth removal, basic dental care and various oral abnormalities
