Dalehead Veterinary Group Farm Animal Practice is a long established two centre (Settle and Bentham) practice providing farm veterinary services to the Yorkshire Dales, East Lancashire and Cumbria.

At our main Settle Surgery we have purpose built surgical and hospitalisation facilities for sheep and calves. Procedures regularly undertaken at the surgery include:

  • All obstetric procedures for sheep including caesarean sections
  • Ram fertility examinations and semen evaluation
  • Herd Fertility Management more..
  • Examination of skin scrapings from itchy sheep in our practice laboratory to determine the presence of sheep scab or lice
  • Umbilical hernia operations on calves
  • Hospitalisation of dehydrated calves in our intensive care unit providing intravenous re-hydration therapy
  • X-ray, cryosurgery and ultrasound facilities
  • Disbudding goat kids
  • Performing vasectomy operations on tups and goats

We provide comprehensive advice on herd health and flock health programmes and stock a full range of cattle and sheep wormers, vaccines, pour-ons and animal healthcare products which we aim to supply to our clients together with expert impartial advice on their most appropriate use. Our monthly newsletters aim to keep our clients informed on formal animal health issues and all the latest offers.

Much of the routine work on farms involves fertility work, many of our dairy farmer clients having weekly, fortnightly or monthly routine visits. We offer a full pregnancy scanning service with both battery-operated and more conventional plug-in scanners determining pregnancy from 30 days post insemination.

Neil is already a holder of the Diploma in Bovine Reproduction and Russell is hoping to pursue an interest in embryo transfer work. We currently have three full-time farm animal vets with experienced back up from several other members of the practice.
